Perth and AFL footie

Have written this post three times now - damn computers were sent here from hell!!! So here goes AGAIN….

okay so sorry to all those who have complained about  the lack of posts but to be fair thought it’d be a bit boring seeing as we’ve been doing nothing except work and sleep for the last two months but have no fear we are putting our traveling boots on very shortly so the posts will be more regular - there happy hmmmmm….

To keep you happy until then i’ll fill you in on what we got up to on our much enjoyed weekend off. Again we headed to Perth poor Adam and Danny must be sick of us, anyway we decided we’d try and catch a live AFL game. Garrett figured as it was going to be a bit of a walk over (it was west coast eagles V’s Carlton - the eagles were big favourites) that it wouldn’t be hard getting tickets.

We arrived in Perth the evening before the match and went for a few beers in the good old Stanford arms (this is were we went last time - but way more behaved this time out). We got up early the next day and headed to Subiaco Oval (the AFL grounds in Perth). Anyhow Adam took on to know the way mmm.. two and a half hours later (after first visiting the cricket grounds which funnily enough don’t host AFL games) we arrived at Subiaco. To put this in perspective - it only took us 20min to get back to Scarborough.

On arriving at the ticket office we noticed a big sign saying SOLD OUT but just to be sure Garrett went up and asked if they’d any tickets (his idea). Turns out it was “sold out”. As we were there we decided to have a walk around the grounds. We passed a number of ticket offices - Garrett deciding each time just to check an make sure they’d no tickets (again big sign saying sold out in front of each office!!!). The conversation would go a bit like this;

G: theres a ticket office will i ask them if they’ve any tickets - worth a try

Adam: ah sure you might as well (Adam extremely hungover)

After Garrett came back:

Adam: well

G: sold out.

This happened no less than five times - Garrett was extremely disappointed and cursed AFL to the high heavens hoping it’d rain the whole match.

However it turned out someone over heard them looking for tickets at the ticket office and low and behold offered us four tickets which we took. We got in just in time for to see the eagle (the west coast mascot) flying over the crowd, and took our seats which were right beside were the eagles ran out onto the field.

Of course not to disappoint Garrett the heavens opened up and it just poured down for the first quater so we had to run for cover as we were sitting in the open - thank you Garrett!! The game as expected was a walk over for the Eagles but we did get to listen into some of the banter between the eagles and carlton fans. Definately worth going to see but we hope to get to another match before we leave OZ.

We finished off the weekend with a few beers back at Adam and Danny’s before traveling back down to Williams.
